The scene is, alasalways the same: cobwebs, dust, earth, feathers everywhere and bodies in decomposition: It is the reality hidden behind the largest intensive breeding of the ovary hens of the island of Mallorca and to spread shocking images is the New investigation published by Food for Profitthanks to the films made under cover by the Arde Spanish Association.

Even more than 135 thousand hens Stipped in a system that – while providing hotels and supermarkets from all over the island -.

For this reason it has already been fined with a penalty of 150,000 euros and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture has started a new procedure against the company. Still, he received over 380 thousand euros in European public funds.

The conditions of the animals

The images were made under cover by the Spanish association burns and show the serious conditions in which animals live, which little reflect the definition of “animal welfare”.

The breeding has evident hygienic deficiencies: cobwebs, dust, earth and feathers everywhere. Numerous mice are visible and even a hedgehog. This is extremely worrying, since the presence of other animals in a breeding like this increases the risk of diseases that could move between different species, also putting human health at risk.

The hens coexist with dozens of carcasses in various decomposition stadiums, some of which have been cannibalized. In addition, there are containers full of putrefaction bodies, infested with larvae.

The possible scam on eggs

The Arde Association has also denounced the stroke breeding: the hens classified as “bred outdoors” have never had access to the outdoor spaces for at least six consecutive days.
The European legislation, in fact, establishes that the hens must have continuous access to the external spaces during the whole day.

This intensive breeding also has a strong negative impact on local communitymainly given to the enormous open -air manure of beyond 5 thousand square meters.

For years, associations and residents have denounced the presence of abundant flies, unbearable odors and health problems, such as respiratory diseases, migraines and vomiting.

Those who sit in Brussels must know what finances every time it approves these funds, especially if they are intensive farms in which animals live in critical conditions and that work illegally – concludes the journalist Giulia Innocenzi – the resources of the European Union should support the ecological transition, not perpetuating production models that compromise the collective good.
