Altroconsumo’s test on supermarket raw ham tortellini outright fails several products which obtain very low scores, with serious deficiencies in the quality of the filling and ingredients
The tortellini test
When it comes to tortellini, the ideal would be to prepare them at home or buy them from a good artisanal pasta factory. However, for various reasons, we often rely on packaged products from the supermarket, where the choice is very wide. But which ones would be better to avoid? A new test by Altroconsumo compared 36 references to find out.
Unfortunately, most do not exceed the passing mark: the average quality is often disappointing, due to questionable ingredients and unbalanced nutritional values. In particular, three products received particularly negative ratings.
Altroconsumo tested 36 different fresh tortellini with raw ham filling, analyzing their ingredients, nutritional values, presence of preservatives, quality of the filling and other parameters. The result was a rather critical picture: many packages in fact had a non-transparent composition and low quality ingredients, the problem was in particular the use of various additives and refined flours. This, combined with an often high calorie intake, makes these products difficult to recommend.

How the test was conducted
The evaluation of Altroconsumo to arrive at the overall score took into account various factors:
Each product ultimately received a score from 0 to 100, which places it in one of five quality bands: very good (80-100), good (60-79), acceptable (40-59), poor (20-39) and very poor (0-19).
The analyzed products were selected from 10 supermarket and discount chains and recorded in the refrigerated counter in the months of October and November 2024.
