The capital is preparing to welcome today, Saturday 4 October, one of the most significant events in support of the Palestinian cause of the last few months. The initiative arrives in the aftermath of the numerous mobilizations that affected the entire peninsula on Friday, when according to CGIL they paraded over two million citizens in a hundred cities.
The details of the initiative
The organizers of the Roman event – including young Palestinians in Italy, Palestinian community in Italy and Palestinian association in Italy – have officially communicated to the authorities the provision of about 20 thousand participants. Considering the wide adhesion recorded in the spontaneous manifestations of the last few days, the observers expect a far more consistent presence.
The procession will see the participation not only of the organizations of the Palestinian diaspora, but also of different union acronyms, university student groups and numerous realities of civil society.
The path through Rome
The departure is set for 14:30 from Piazzale Ostiense. From there, the river of demonstrators will travel some of the most iconic arteries of the Eternal City: Viale della Piramide Cestia, Piazza Albania, continuing along Viale Aventino to Piazza di Porta Capena. The route will then continue through via di San Gregorio and via Celio Vibenna, lapped the Colosseum through the homonymous square, and then take via Labicana and via Merulana to the final destination in Piazza di Porta San Giovanni.
Extraordinary security measures
The authorities have prepared a massive deployment of law enforcement agencies to guarantee the regular performance of the event. This morning a technical table was held at the Capitoline police headquarters to define the last details of the security plan.
The Minister of the Interior Matteo planted, who intervened yesterday, defined today’s appointment “equally demanding” compared to Friday events, underlining the maximum attention that will be dedicated to the garrison of public order.
The inhabitants and visitors of the capital will have to take into account possible inconvenience to the roads along the entire process of the procession and in the neighboring areas during the afternoon.
