In the town of Traben-Trarbachnear Trier there is a market particular, the market Christmas celebration of Moselle wine located in the historic cellars of the city.
The cellars are spaces, dating back to the 16th century, elegantly furnished and embellished with romantic lighting, creating a unique atmosphere.
Inside the cellars the scents of mulled winefrom the toasted almonds and fresh fir wood envelop visitors, creating a sensation of enveloping warmthperfect for forgetting the winter outside for a moment.
The market
Every weekend, from 22 November 2024 to 1 January 2025, artisans from the Moselle, Eifel and Rhine showcase the best of their creativity: handmade Christmas decorations, jewellery, home and wellness items, and much more other.
A particularly evocative experience is given by the concerts and performances that enliven the market during the weekends. The cellars, with their unique acoustics, are transformed into natural stages for Christmas choirs, wind instrument ensembles and themed theater shows. These moments enrich the atmosphere, transforming a visit into a true emotional journey, where music is intertwined with the scents and flavors of tradition.
For the little ones, fun activities and workshops are organised, such as creative workshops and guided tours with stories of ancient Moselle legends. Here children can have fun learning, for example, to decorate Christmas biscuits or create small craft objects. A visit to this market is a special opportunity to share unforgettable moments with the whole family.
The project was born with the intention of reviving the prestigious Moselle cellars which made this location famous in the 1900s thanks to the trade of Riesling, one of the most prized and recognized white wines in the world. This vine, originally from Germany, is highly appreciated for its versatility and its distinctive aromas which vary from fruity to floral, with a mineral note that characterizes its flavour.
