The Altroconsumo survey dedicated to fresh tortellini filled with raw ham highlighted a less than comforting fact: out of 36 products analysed, only three achieved a positive rating. All the others highlight more or less marked limitations, especially in the quality of the filling and the choice of ingredients.
In an ideal world, tortellini should be prepared at home, or purchased from a trusted artisan pasta factory. Daily reality, however, often leads us to choose the packaged versions present in the refrigerated counter, thanks to wide availability and more accessible prices. Precisely to orient consumers, Altroconsumo has decided to sift through the main products on sale in large-scale retail trade.
The overall verdict leaves little room for enthusiasm. Most of the tortellini examined struggled to reach sufficiency, with an average quality judged to be unconvincing. What matters are ingredients considered questionable and unbalanced nutritional profiles. At the end of the analysis, only three products obtained the “good” rating, standing out in a rather critical panorama.
The tortellini test
The investigation examined 36 types of fresh tortellini filled with raw ham. The experts evaluated various aspects: the list of ingredients, the nutritional values, the possible presence of preservatives, the quality of the filling and other technical parameters. The picture that emerged highlights numerous critical issues. In many packages the composition is unclear and characterized by raw materials of modest quality. The use of additives and refined flours appears particularly widespread, elements that negatively impact the overall quality of the product. Added to this is an often high caloric intake, a factor that makes it difficult to recommend these tortellini as a usual choice.
In light of the results, only three brands manage to stand out for a more refined composition and superior general quality. These are the only options considered valid for those who want to indulge in a plate of tortellini bought at the supermarket without completely sacrificing quality.
The ranking of the best tortellini in the supermarket
According to the updated Altroconsumo test, the best fresh tortellini filled with raw ham are:
- Luciana Mosconi La Pasta Fresca – Tortellini with raw ham: score 71, good rating and best composition.
- Esselunga Top – Tortellini with “Prosciutto di Parma DOP”: score 64, good rating.
- Carrefour Classic – Tortellini Prosciutto Crudo: score 61, good rating.
All the other products analyzed fall into the “acceptable” or, in several cases, even “poor” quality ranges, confirming a rather low average level of the available offer. Here is the rest of the ranking:
How the test was conducted
To arrive at the final score, Altroconsumo has adopted a complex evaluation system that takes into account various factors.
Each tortellino received a score between 0 and 100, placing it in one of five quality bands: very good (80-100), good (60-79), acceptable (40-59), poor (20-39) and very poor (0-19).
The products analyzed come from 10 different supermarket and discount chains and were detected in refrigerated counters in the period between October and November 2024.
