It’s at Pigneto, in Rome, the best ice cream shop in the world and it’s worth going there at least once in your life

A neighborhood ice cream shop, far from the historic center, wins first place in a world ranking. This is what happened to The Sicilian CannoloEugenio Morrone’s restaurant in Piazza Roberto Malatesta, in the Pigneto district of Rome, listed as the best ice cream shop in the world in the 2026 ranking drawn up by the travel portal Travel365 among 42 international companies.

How the ranking was born

The verdict comes from a survey that involved over 300 thousand users of the community, called to evaluate more than a thousand ice cream parlors based on the goodness of the ice cream, variety and originality of the flavors, care of the place and professionalism of the staff. The most requested flavor in the Morrone ice cream shop, it must be said, is precisely the one that gives the business its name, namely the Sicilian cannoli.

A recognition also from the Government

The title comes a few days after another investiture, this time institutional. On 15 July Morrone received the Master of the Art of Italian Cuisine Award for the ice cream category at Palazzo Chigi, from the hands of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida. The recognition, established with law no. 59 of 2024, was awarded this year for the second time to ten Masters of Italian food and wine, including the winemaker Piero Antinori and the cheesemaker Nicola Bertinelli.

Behind the double recognition there is an already consolidated path, given that Morrone, Calabrian by origin and Roman by adoption (he trained in Trastevere) has been awarded several times as the best ice cream maker in the world in the Gelato Festival World Ranking, the international competition dedicated to the sector. In addition to the Sicilian Cannolo al Pigneto, the maestro manages two other ice cream parlors in Trastevere, Moonflower and An Ice Cream in Rome.
