In the heart of the Chilean coast, a Picchilemua town known for its waves and seaside tourism, a British woman has decided to launch a singular but urgent challenge: clean up the bed of a dry river before the winter rains reactivate itdragging with it tons of waste towards the ocean.
His name is SlowMadic KayleighTiktoker and environmental activist, and has transformed his social profile into a diary of ecological journey. In one of his videos he explains:
Now there is a lot of plastic. Let’s see if we can clean everything before it starts to rain and that this plastic ends up at sea.
And it is precisely from here that the name of his project is born: “Carrera Contra La Lluvia”or the Running against rain.

A bed of river full of plastic and butts
The river in question remains dry for most of the year. This makes it one open -air landfill For incivile that fill it with plastic, bottles, cigarette butts and other waste. With the arrival of the rains, the waters resume their course and all these materials are transported to the sea. Hence the Tiktoker’s decision: act before it’s too late.
In another of his videos he tells: “Did you know that cigarette butts take up to 10 years to degrade?”underlining that represent 30% of waste which he finds during his cleaning operations.
Kayleigh, accompanied by his dogs, regularly shares what he collects: dozens of plastic bottles In a few hours, butcons scattered everywhere and even curtains or objects left by campers. It does not fail to also launch some criticism against those who stand without respect, showing the huge amount of garbage collected in just one afternoon.
His is a battle against time and indifference. Winter in Chile is upon us And every day it can be the one in which the river fills again. But Kayleigh does not give up. Continues to clean, document and sensitize, with the aim of prevent those waste from ending up in sea. A concrete example of how, even alone, you can have a positive impact on the environment.
