Jackie Chana global icon of action cinema and known for his philanthropic commitment, has decided that his assets, estimated at 400 million dollars, will be entirely donated to charity. A surprising decision, that excludes son Jaycee Chan, 40, from the inheritance. In fact, he declared:
If he is capable, he can make his own money. If it’s not, it would just waste mine.
Jaycee, born in 1982 from Jackie Chan’s marriage to Taiwanese actress Joan Lin, has had an uneven career in show business. He attempted to establish himself as actor and musicianhowever obtaining modest results. Over the years, the relationship between father and son has been characterized by tensionsalso due to Jaycee’s controversial behavior.
In 2014, Jaycee was arrested in Beijing for drug possession and harboring drug users. The episode marked a critical point in their relationship. During the six months of detention, only Jaycee’s mother showed up to support him, while Jackie Chan chose to not even attend the court hearing.
Chan has always been involved in charity
In addition to the disagreements with his son, let’s not forget the fact that Chan, in parallel with his career in cinema, has dedicated himself to charity for decades. In 1988 he founded the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundationan organization that provides educational support, medical care, and aid to victims of natural disasters.
Subsequently, in 2005, he established the Dragon’s Heart Foundationwhich focuses on building schools and improving living conditions in rural areas of China. Jaycee, meanwhile, seems committed to forging his own path, even outside of the show. In 2021, it has launched a tequila branddemonstrating an attempt at professional diversification.
Chan’s choice can be interpreted as a strong message: no matter how great the legacy, what matters is the ability to build something with your own strength. And with this decision, the actor reaffirms his commitment to social welfare, allocating his fortune to those who need it most.
