It’s about to return “kiss” Moon-Jupitera not very rare but always fascinating sight. On the night of October 20th we will not miss it and we will also prepare many wishes, because the conjunction will be surrounded by shooting starsthe splendid ones Orionidspeaking just 24 hours later.
As the UAI explains, our satellite, continuing its path in the constellation of Taurus, will approach the Gas Giant in the night between 20 and 21 October and then pass it (in the map the sky of October 21, 2024 at approximately 1.00 am).
And it doesn’t end here, because, as you can see from the map itself, the splendid ones could already be almost at their peak that night Orionidsmeteors originating from particles ejected from the comet Halley during old perihelion passages.
This year their radiant, i.e. the point from which the swarm appears to start, will be observable from around midnight, reaching its greatest height (over 60°) at dawn. The peak is actually expected on the night following the conjunction, i.e. between the 21st and 22nd of the month, but just 24 hours before should not be difficult (weather permitting) express some wishes.
