The September 7th We do not make commitments, thetotal eclipse of the moonand will also be visible in Italy (time permitting). In less than a month we will admire a fascinating show, with a splendid red moon in heaven.
Because Moon of the harvest
The Native Americans called it that because the great collection work could also be prolonged at night in the light of the full moon, which was therefore much loved. As with many full moons, this name is also attributed to the tribe of Algonchini, the most numerous.
However, this is not always the moon of the harvest: in reality this is the name that is given to Moon closest to the Autumn equinoxwhich in 2025 was expected on 22 September at 18.20 Italian time (while the full moon of October is scheduled for the 7th of the month). Therefore it may happen that the Moon of the harvest is that of October, as happened in 2020.
This is not even the only name, in fact other traditions are joined and sometimes they overlap: this full moon is also called for example Moon of the cornbecause one of the September products was the corn.
What is the total eclipse of the moon
THE’Luna eclipse It is a suggestive natural phenomenon that occurs when the shadow of the earth, illuminated by the sun, completely or partially obscures our satellite, when the latter is in the “full” phase while sun, earth and they find themselves aligned in this order.
In other words, the sun illuminates the earth, which projects its shadow on the moon, which, if the eclipse is total, will appear red Because among all the components of the white light, our atmosphere lets only this component pass (the phenomenon is called Rayleight Scatteringthe same that makes us appear the blue sky during the day and red in the evening).
What we will see on September 7, 2025 (and how to admire the show)

In our country, the total eclipse will be visible, with the sole exception of the first part, or of the penumbral eclipse, which we will however see in closing, with the maximum expected around 20.10 Italian time (on the map the Heaven of 7 September 2025 at about 20.10).
Time permitting, when the eclipse is total, we will see one Beautiful and romantic red moon for about 40 minutes. Then, slowly, the lunar disk will “reappear”, and around 11.00 pm Italian time we will observe the penumbral eclipse, or our satellite that passes through the penumbra of the earth, without being hidden by its shadow: in these minutes the moon will be visible but “faded”.

Not to be missed!
