Let’s prepare wishes for the passage of the Lyrids, the shooting stars queens of spring

Let’s prepare the spring wishes! On the evening of April 22 let’s not forget to raise our eyes to the sky as the Lyridsthe shooting stars queens of the season of rebirth. We don’t miss out!

As the UAI explains, the undisputed protagonist is the Lyrid swarm, one of the oldest known, associated with the comet Thatcher. The expected frequency is approximately 15–20 meteors/hourbut sudden increases have also occurred in the past. The shower is then made up of meteors that are fast (about 49 km/s) and often bright, with persistent trails.

The peak, around April 22, falls in almost ideal conditions in 2026: the Moon is a thin crescent and disturbs little (a few days after the New Phase of the 17th), making this one of the best years for recent observation of the swarm (in the map the sky of April 22, 2026 at approximately 11.30 pm).
