A wheel weighing approximately one kilo, lot BXCG1, minimum shelf life set for 20 September. On 1 September, the Ministry of Health announced the precautionary recall of a batch of 1kg 60% Brie under the Neutre brand, marketed in Italy by Bayernland Srl. The reason indicated on the official form concerns a potential microbiological risk from Listeria monocytogenes.
The product and the supply chain
The recalled cheese bears the “Neutre” brand and is marketed by the company Bayernland Srl, but production takes place entirely in France: the factory is that of SASU Pâturages Comtois, based in rue de la Fromagerie in Aboncourt-Gesincourt, in the Franche-Comté region, identification mark FR 70.002.001 CE.

The affected lot is identified by the code BXCG1, also shown on the label in the extended form 0000BXCG1, with a minimum shelf life of 20 September 2026 and a recommended storage temperature between 2 and 8 degrees.
Why Listeria is a concern
As already mentioned for other recent recalls, Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium capable of surviving and multiplying even at the temperatures of the home refrigerator, a characteristic that makes it particularly insidious in long-life dairy products. In the general population the infection often progresses mildly, with flu-like symptoms, while in the more fragile categories (pregnant women, newborns, elderly people, immunosuppressed people) it can instead lead to severe complications, up to meningitis and/or sepsis.
What to do if you own the product
The official warning is clear: anyone who has purchased a wheel of Brie Neutre corresponding to the BXCG1 batch must not consume it. The product must be returned to the point of sale for a replacement or refund. The form adds an indication that does not always appear in recalls of this type: in the event of consumption which has already occurred, or the appearance of suspicious symptoms, it is advisable to contact your doctor, reporting exposure to the product.
A recall that arrived a few weeks late
The measure is dated September 1st, while public disclosure only arrived on September 15th, together with another recall for Listeria, that of a batch of smoked bacon from Salumificio Campidanese Su Sartizzu which we have already talked about.
