Their love story began nine years agoduring a masquerade party in the facility. Although they had both attended the University of Pennsylvania decades earlier, they had never met. The relationship between Marjorie and Bernie is blossomed naturallymade up of shared daily moments: meals together, long conversations and participation in community activities.

Bernie said he was immediately struck by Marjorie’s intelligence and humor. “We both keep each other young” said Bernie, attributing his longevity to reading, while Marjorie jokes that his secret is buttermilk.

The wedding

The ceremony, intimate and touching, took place under a traditional one chuppah both being Jewish in the presence of four generations of Bernie’s family. Although Marjorie has no children of her own, with this marriage she has gained two stepchildren, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Rabbi Wohlberg, officiating the wedding, quipped:

Most of the couples I marry today meet through dating apps. I much prefer the old methods: live on the same floor, meet and fall in love.

Then he added a message full of wisdom:

Each of you has already accumulated a lifetime of experiences. What you know and love about each other is exactly what the future holds for your relationship.

Bernie’s granddaughter, Sarah Sichermanenthusiastically recounted the family’s joy:

Today my 100 year old grandfather married his 102 year old girlfriend! After over 60 years of marriage to their first spouses, they found love again. It is a moment of hope in a world full of challenges.

Their story is a testimony to how the heart can remain young and open to love, at any age. Long live, therefore, to both of them and to their love!
