Starting today the app I is enriched with a new functionality: the possibility of have some documents in digital format directly on your smartphone. The “Wallet” section of the app now also hosts the driving licensethe health card (which includes the European Health Insurance Card) and the European Disability Charter.
This update marks the beginning of IT-Walleta project designed to simplify the management of personal documents, while still maintaining the option to use physical formats for those who prefer it.
How does IT-Wallet work?
But how to do it? To use this new feature, just download or update the IO appavailable for Android and iOS devices, and authenticate via SPID or CIE. Once you log in for the first time, you can set a PIN or activate biometric recognition to ensure information security.
Digital documents are authentic copies of the physical counterpartswhose data are provided by the bodies that issue the originals, such as the Ministry of Transport for the driving license or the INPS for the European Disability Card.
At this early stage, digital documents can be used exclusively in Italy and only in physical contexts, for example during road checks or to access National Health System services. The future objective is to extend the validity of the documents also at an international level, increasing convenience for citizens.
Other documents may be uploaded in the future
The digital wallet represents in fact only the first step towards a completely digital management of personal documents. By 2025, IT-Wallet will integrate additional elements, such as voter ID cards, educational qualifications, electronic health records and even season tickets or public transport tickets.
This evolution will make the IO app a point of reference for managing digital identity and personal rights. Despite this, the data security it is an absolute priority of the project. The system uses advanced authentication methods to ensure that only the owner can access their documents. Furthermore, the initiative was designed to be inclusiveleaving users the freedom to choose between digital and physical formats without obligations.
