Never more torture in the name of beauty! Brazil prohibits animal cosmetic tests (after more than a decade of battles)

The 9 July 2025 It will be remembered as a historical date for the Animal protection in Brazil. After more than a decade of pressure, campaigns and commitment by associations and citizens, the Chamber of Deputies approved a law that He banks animal experimentation for cosmetic purposes throughout the national territory.

The new legislation It prohibits the use of vertebrate animals in cosmetics tests, personal hygiene products and perfumes. Not only that: it will be the sale of products or ingredients tested on animals prohibitedwith the only exception of tests required by international regulations. Even in those cases, however, companies nor use misleading gods as “not tested on animals”.

A result of years of years of popular mobilization

This law represents the victory of one civil battle that began in 2013when the first bill was presented on the subject. Since then the project had been blocked, but thanks to the tenacity of organizations such as Te Protejo and Humane World for Animals, and to the support of Oltre 1.6 million signatories on Change.orghas returned to Parliament until its final approval.

The goal is now clear: to build amore ethical and transparent cosmetic industrycapable of reflecting the values of a society increasingly attentive to the welfare of animals and the sustainability of one’s choices. Even today, in fact, in many parts of the world thousands of animals – above all rabbits, mice and guinea pigs – are subjected to invasive and painful evidence Like eye irritation, acute toxicity or skin corrosion. These practices, often made without anesthesiacause serious injuries and, in many cases, the death of animals.

The most serious thing? They are no longer necessary. Science has already developed Alternative methods more reliable and respectful, like i computational modelsi Cellular crops or the bio-staple 3Dwhich can effectively replace tests on living beings.

More and more countries say enough to animal experimentation

With this law, the Brazil becomes the 45th country in the world to ban animal experimentation for cosmetic purposes. In Latin America, he joins Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Panamastrengthening an increasingly clear tendency towards respect for animals.

Now Only there is no signature of the president and the implementation by the ANVISAthe National Agency for Health Surveillance, which will be two years old to define the control and validation protocols of alternative methods. A victory that changes the future, not only for animals.
