For at least three years New York had not been literally buried under the snow: in the Big Apple storms have been raging for days and hundreds of flights have been cancelled, making it impossible or at least very dangerous to take off and land at the city’s airports.

Good morning from a snowy New York City. Light snow and flurries will clear out this morning, and then we may see very light snow after that.
It’ll still be cold and slippery outside. Please be careful walking or driving today.

As reported FlightAwaremost of the canceled flights in the USA are concentrated in the airports of the New York metropolitan area (last Friday there were already 122 to and from John F. Kennedy International Airport, 61 to and from Newark International Airport), and in general there are already over 1700 planes that neither departed nor landed in the North-East of the USA.

New York will be hit by its strongest snowstorm in recent years: in some areas of the Big Apple, up to 28 cm of snow is expected, according to meteorologists and officials – wrote the New York Post yesterday December 26 – More than half of the Empire State was declared in a state of emergency when the snow began to fall just before 5pm on Friday

However, for now, the emergency seems to have ended: no other massive storms are expected, but, as reported by the National Weather Servicesome lighter snowfall is still likely.
The monitoring system, however, is still on alert.
(4:00am): Snow continues across the NYC metro, Long Island, NE NJ through day break. The snow is beginning to taper off elsewhere. We are seeing some enhancement of the snow on Long Island off the ocean. Check out the radar returns moving in from the east across Suffolk County. pic.twitter.com/h7OzFf4cVV
