After more than three decades, Nightmare Before Christmas returns to make Tim Burton fans dream (and tremble). The official announcement came during the New York Comic Con, where it was presented Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town. It is a four-issue comic miniseries, published by Dynamite Comics in collaboration with Disney, to be released in January 2026.
The new story brings Sally, the most beloved rag doll of gothic cinema, back to the forefront, on a journey that will lead her to the magical and disturbing Christmas Town. This time, its creator, Dr. Finkelstein, has given life to an unusual creature: Shiver, a cold-hearted teddy bear who mysteriously disappears along with the three rascals Lock, Shock and Barrel.
What to expect from the comic
Written by Torunn Grønbekk (Thor, Venom) and illustrated by Edu Menna (Army of Darkness), the miniseries promises a journey full of black poetry, irony and magic. The author described the work as “a feast of imagination and dark delights“, designed for all ages. In the previews, Jack Skellington does not appear, but fans can hope for a cameo from the Pumpkin King during Sally’s crossing between worlds.
The comic’s aesthetic retains the visual appeal of the original film, made in 1993 by Henry Selick with production by Tim Burton and a soundtrack by Danny Elfman, which made Nightmare Before Christmas an intergenerational cult.
A universe that never stops growing
The project continues the expansion of the franchise, already started in 2022 with the novel Long Live the Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw, where Sally married Jack and became queen of Halloween Town. The world created by Burton also continues to live in the video games of the saga Kingdom Hearts and in the title Oogie’s Revenge by Capcom. And now, 31 years after the film’s release, The Shiver of Christmas Town proves that Halloween Town is far from buried: between dream and nightmare, Tim Burton’s gothic charm continues to bewitch new generations.
