It’s time to dismantle the sporting duopoly that has saturated Italian schedules for decades. Finally, the deserved media dignity is given to volleyball, a movement that for too long has remained in the shadow of football and tennis, despite its continuous international triumphs. The epochal turning point for our movement is official: starting from the 2026/2027 season, the Serie A Women’s Volleyball League will inaugurate the most extensive and widespread diffusion plan ever. Thanks to an unprecedented multiplatform strategy, fans and the newly curious will be able to follow the matches through traditional television, premium streaming and, for the first time ever, directly on digital channels.
Goodbye Volleyball World, Spike Media enters the field
This historic change of gear coincides with a profound revolution in the management of the championship’s audiovisual rights. After the previous five-year agreement with the international platform Volleyball World, the management of media rights passes into the hands of Spike Media, the joint venture created between the League itself and Gameday (part of Nicole Junkermann’s NJF Holdings investment group). This strategic choice marks a clear separation from the men’s sector, which instead preferred to renew in the long term with the old dealership. The objective declared by Simone Tomassetti of Spike Media is clear: to overturn the traditional paradigm by bringing the games directly to the digital places frequented daily by the new generations:
We are aware that the way in which users follow sport is changing and it is becoming increasingly necessary to meet the new needs of fans but also of the simply curious, who are none other than the fans of the future. We are fortunate to have a roster of extraordinary talents for whom we have introduced a distribution model that marks a real revolution in the Italian panorama.
TV coverage between Rai and DAZN’s full offering
The new distribution architecture, which will cover the next three years, aims to bring together extremely different audiences. Rai confirms itself as the fundamental pillar for free free-to-air coverage, guaranteeing the historic national television showcase. At the same time, the DAZN streaming platform will broadcast the entire regular season of the Serie A1 Fineco, the Scudetto playoffs, the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa, the Italian Super Cup and a targeted selection of the Serie A2 Fineco matches. This is a mammoth media exposure that equates the treatment of volleyball to that of traditionally richer disciplines.
The historic turning point: three matches per day visible on the athletes’ profiles
However, the real cultural revolution of this agreement lies in social distribution. For the first time in Italy, three matches of each day of the regular season will be broadcast live for free on YouTube, on the League’s official channels, on club profiles and even on the personal social accounts of individual players.
This move intends to exploit the extraordinary appeal of Julio Velasco’s national team to attract new spectators. As proudly underlined by the president of the League, Mauro Fabris, this historic achievement will offer athletes and clubs unprecedented visibility, demonstrating that great volleyball no longer needs to ask anyone for space:
Bringing the exploits of our extraordinary athletes wherever the public is is a choice that only the Serie A Volleyball League could make as a fundamental step for the definitive consecration, growth and valorization of the entire Italian women’s volleyball movement
