Oktoberfest 2025, the night train headed to Munich starts from Rome (with craft beers on board)

For those who plan a visit to the Oktoberfest 2025, a comfortable, sustainable and not very stressful alternative to the car or the plane arrives. It is called Espresso Monaco, and it is a night train designed to directly connect Rome to Munich, with stops also in different cities of northern Italy.

The train, called Espresso Monaco, is managed by FS Italian tourist trains and is not just a means of reaching the beer festival: it aims to offer a concrete alternative to mobility on rubber, proposing a relaxed journey, with low impact and accessible also from different cities in Northern Italy.

A section also designed for Northern Italy

It is not only started from Rome. The service includes intermediate stops in Verona, Trento, Bolzano, Bressanone, Fortezza, Vipiteno, Colle Isarco and Brennero, making the train accessible also to those who live in the regions of the north-east. Some runs will also stop in Austria and Germany, with stops in Innsbruck and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

A useful option for those looking for an alternative solution to the car to reach Oktoberfest, avoiding traffic and the problem of parking in a city which, at that time, is notoriously congested.

BRIES, RESTAURANTS AND RESTAURANT CARRIAGE

The departure is evening: you climb on board on Friday evening from Roma Termini (at 20:00) and you arrive in Monaco on Saturday, around 14:30. The return trip starts on Sunday afternoon, always at 14:30, arriving in the Italian capital on Monday morning at 06:30. Everything will be repeated for two consecutive weekends: 26-28 September and 3-5 October.

Passengers can choose between seats, shared bunks and bed wagons, both single and double. On board there is also a restaurant and bar carriage, where it will be possible to taste craft beers and participate in small entertainment activities inspired by the Bavarian culture. No special effect: rather aims to make the journey part of the experience, without exaggerations.

Reservations already open, with discounts for those who buy by 7 September

Tickets can already be purchased on the Railbook platform, with a promotion valid until 7 September. The cost for the one-way Roma-Monaco starts from 99 euros, while the return ticket is available starting from 89 euros, thanks to a discounted rate for those who book both routes.

The number of places is limited. The initiative, in addition to encouraging the use of the train for major events, is part of a wider vision of sustainable railway tourism, on which Italian tourist trains have been investing for some time.
