Orange blossom water is a precious essence that transforms ordinary desserts into refined creations with an intoxicating scent. How to prepare this aromatic elixir easily in the house, traditionally used in the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern pastry shop.
How many times have you had the temptation to flavor your desserts with the “natural” aromas for sale at the supermarket, such as the fake aroma of almonds? As an alternative to the natural grated lemon peel or a few tablespoons of homemade liqueur, you can prepare Orange flower water!
It is perfect for flavoring tarts, creams, donuts and sorbets. So if you have a tree of orange in your garden, you cannot fail to try your hand at its preparation. Here’s how to do it.
Ingredients for a jar:
Preparation
Collect the orange flowers in a bowl full of cold water and baking soda, let them soak for 5 minutes, then drain them and put them in a saucepan.
Add a cup of water, sugar, cover and bring to a boil; When the water starts to boil, turn off the stove and let it cool completely, without removing the lid.
When the liquid is cold, remove the flowers and transfer the liquid to a jar: you can keep it in the fridge and use it when you want. Of course, to flavor your desserts, a few drops will not be enough (as happens for the chemical aromas): half a jar is enough for a dose of tart cream. Replace a glass of milk with a glass of orange flowers and your cream will become very fragrant.
