From 1 December 2025 the method for issuing the ordinary passport has changed. The traditional postal bulletin will no longer be valid and will have to be replaced by digital and traceable tools via the PagoPA platform. This innovation is part of a broader process of digitalisation of public services, aimed at making procedures faster, safer and more accessible.
The new amount
The contribution necessary to obtain the passport undergoes a slight change: it goes from 42.50 euros to 42.70 euros. No additional costs are foreseen, except for those who choose home delivery, an optional service with a fee of 9.53 euros, to be paid directly to Poste Italiane staff. Payments made by payment slip before December 1st will remain valid.
Where and how to pay
Citizens can pay the amount either in person or from the comfort of their home. The authorized counters include post offices, banks, tobacconists and other affiliated outlets. Alternatively, it is possible to use the online platforms of the same operators or service providers connected to PagoPA. This flexibility allows you to complete the payment digitally without having to physically go to the counters, but with the same legal validity.
The data required for payment
To make the payment, both in person and online, it is necessary to provide the applicant’s name, surname and tax code, even if he or she is a minor. The payment must be made after submitting the application, following the new operational guidelines established by the competent authorities.
Where to submit the application
The passport request must be submitted to the passport offices of the place of residence, domicile or abode, or abroad to Italian embassies and consulates. The introduction of PagoPA and digital payments represents a step forward in the modernization of public administration, making the process more traceable and secure and reducing waiting times.
