In the village of Piplodi, in the state of Rajasthan, the farmer Mor Singh, 60 years old, became a local hero after making his home available to host the primary school of the village. The original structure had been seriously damaged by the strong rains of July, which caused the collapse of a classroom causing the death of seven children and the injury of other twenty -one.
After the tragedy, Mor Singh and his family left the house, built with great sacrifice in three years, to move to a bamboo hut and telons located not far away. The family, consisting of eight members including a two -year grain, has willingly accepted change, aware of the importance of guaranteeing school continuity to the children of the village.
Mor Singh’s house, consisting of two rooms, now houses 50-60 students. The teachers returned to carrying out the lessons and parents started to send their children to school again, preventing the little ones from dealing with the difficult two kilometer journey towards the nearest village and the possibility that many children abandon their studies.
Recognitions and support from the Government
For his gesture, the state government assigned to Mor Singh an economic support of about 200,000 rupees. In addition, Piplodi has been declared “Adarsh Gram”, a model village, with the start of a redevelopment project that provides for the construction of a new school, a playground, a health center and other infrastructures. The District has allocated funds of 1.8 Rupie crores (just over 17,000 euros) to carry out these works.
Mor Singh, who has never attended school, wanted to underline for this to underline the importance of education for the children of the village to learn and achieve their goals. His sacrifice saved the school year of dozens of students and transformed him into a symbol of generosity and dedication for the whole community.
