For the first time in the history of Olympic games, In Los Angeles 2028 there will be more women than men among the athletes in the race. The decision was made official by International Olympic Committee (CI)which approved the program of competitions for the American edition of the event.
The total number of athletes for the main Olympic disciplines will remain unchanged compared to Paris 2024, that is 10,500 places available. But the distribution changes: 5,333 will be reserved for women’s athletes against 5,167 for men. A historical step towards the gender equalitywhich however does not stop there.
The Los Angeles 2028 program also provides for the entry of Five additional sports proposed by the local organizing committee: Baseball/Softball, Cricket, Football Flag, Lacrosse and Squash. These sports will bring 698 further places: 322 for women and 376 for men, bringing the total total to 11,198 athletes (5,655 women and 5,543 men).
Also the number of medals at stake grows: they will be 351 eventsMeaning what 22 more Compared to Paris. Of these 161 they will be female races, 165 male and 25 mixed, a sign of growing attention to inclusion and balance between genres.
There will be 16 female and 12 male teams in football
