The municipality of Roccamonfina, in the province of Caserta, is one of the most interesting destinations for anyone looking for a break from the summer heat of Naples and the coastal cities. An ancient volcano that has become a green giant

The absolute protagonist of this territory is the Roccamonfina volcano, one of the oldest volcanic systems in Campania. One of the most evocative places is the Garden of the Queen, on Mount Frascara, where there are ancient megalithic walls attributed to the Samnites.

What to see in Roccamonfina

The Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Lattani

It is the spiritual symbol of the territory. Located at approximately 850 meters above sea level, on Monte dei Lattani, the sanctuary was founded in the fifteenth century by San Bernardino da Siena and San Giacomo della Marca. Its history is linked to the legend of the discovery of a statue of the Virgin hidden in a cave.

Even today the complex is a destination for pilgrimages and offers one of the most beautiful views of the hills of Upper Caserta. The sanctuary courtyard, the Madonna fountain and the surrounding landscape create one of the most evocative corners of the volcano.

The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maggiore

In the historic centre, the Collegiate Church is worth a visit, with its eighteenth-century bell tower decorated with majolica and the parish museum which preserves sacred furnishings.
