Rome mobilizes and takes to the streets against the war: 20 thousand people are expected at the national demonstration on March 14

Rome is preparing to become the protagonist of a large national mobilization on March 14th, with a procession that will start from Piazza della Repubblica and end at Porta San Giovanni. The organizers speak of up to 20 thousand participants, including social movements, student collectives, social centers and entities already involved in solidarity with Palestine.

Originally conceived as a protest for the referendum, the demonstration has broadened its message: a clear no to war, in particular to what is defined as unilateral aggression against Iran, and a call against any form of authoritarian drift in Italian institutions.

Given the scale of the event, strengthened security measures are planned in the capital, with checks at the main access points and sensitive areas. Coaches from all over Italy will join the procession, while the confederal unions and the main centre-left parties have not officially joined, leaving room for participation that comes from below, directly from civil society.

The contrast between the square and Parliament

The demonstration was also born as a direct response to Prime Minister Meloni’s statements in Parliament, where she tried to clarify the Italian position on the crisis in the Middle East, arguing that Italy does not participate in conflicts, while recalling the use of US military bases present on the national territory. The organizers of the protest instead denounce a subordination to the logic of NATO and the United States and an automatic exposure of the country to international conflicts.

The No Social committee and membership

The No Social Committee brings together student collectives, grassroots unions and civil rights movements, promoting a clear message: stop war policies, social repression and the attack on civil liberties. Among the members there are also Palestinian groups and groups for the right to live, while Potere al Popolo contests both the government and the opposition deemed too lukewarm. Below are all the entities currently involved, with the organizers promising that many more will be added:

A political and social message

The demonstration on March 14 aims to be a strong message: against Italian involvement in conflicts, against militarism and against institutional counter-reforms. The promoters assure that the mobilizations will continue even after March 23, with the aim of stopping the authoritarian drift and bringing to the streets the voice of those who reject wars, social inequalities and repression.
