A batch of sliced Milano salami was withdrawn from the refrigerated counters of Sigma supermarkets. The alert was triggered on March 17, 2026 due to a microbiological risk: the possible presence of salmonella in the product.
The manufacturer, Salumifici Granterre SpA, with a factory in Via Paganine 23 in Modena, arranged the withdrawal directly. The cured meat – pre-sliced 100 gram trays, sold exclusively under the Sigma brand on behalf of D.It Distribuzione Italiana Soc. Coop. — has been removed from shelves as a precaution.
The official document: all the lot data
The recall form released by Sigma precisely reports the data necessary to identify the product. The affected lot is 22604715, with a minimum shelf life of 22 April 2026, 100 gram pack. The identification mark of the establishment is IT 444 L UE. The reason for the recall is explicitly indicated: “Possible presence of Salmonella“. The warning to consumers is equally direct: do not consume the product and return it to the point of sale.
What is salmonella and what risks does it pose?
Salmonella is the most frequently isolated bacterium in food-borne infections. As the Istituto Superiore di Sanità reminds us, the symptoms of salmonellosis – nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever – appear between 6 and 72 hours after ingesting the contaminated food and generally last for 4-7 days.
In most cases the course is benign and does not require hospitalization. Those most exposed to complications are young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, for whom the infection can evolve into more serious forms.
What to do if you purchased the product
If you purchased Sigma brand Milano salami with TMC 22 April 2026 and lot 22604715, do not consume it.
