Salmonella in organic eggs, the recall is triggered: brand and batches not to be consumed

New food alert issued by the Ministry of Health. This time the recall concerns some organic egg packs that may be contaminated with Salmonella Typhimuriumone of the bacteria most frequently associated with foodborne infections in humans.

The measure was adopted following checks carried out by the manufacturer, which highlighted the presence of the microorganism in some analyzed samples. As a precaution, several batches of eggs already distributed to points of sale were withdrawn from the market.

Salmonella represents one of the main causes of food poisoning and can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and fever, which generally appear between a few hours and a few days after consuming the contaminated food. Although in most cases the infection resolves spontaneously, it can be more dangerous for children, the elderly and people with reduced immune defenses.

How to recognize recalled eggs

The recall concerns fresh category A organic eggs under the Bio Fattoria brand, produced by the Società Agricola Fattoria Paradello in the Rodengo Saiano plant, in the province of Brescia.

The affected packs are sold in different formats: packs of 4 eggs (270 grams), packs of 6 eggs (400 grams) and packs of 30 eggs (1.9 kg).

To recognize the recalled product it is necessary to check the batch number shown on the package. The lots involved are:

Anyone who has purchased a package belonging to one of these lots is invited not to consume the eggs, even after cooking, and to return them to the point of sale where they were purchased to obtain a refund or replacement of the product.

What is Salmonella Typhimurium

Salmonella Typhimurium is one of the most widespread salmonella serotypes worldwide and among the main causes of non-typhoidal salmonellosis. This bacterium can contaminate various foods of animal origin, but eggs have always been one of the products most associated with risk.

To reduce the chances of infection it is important to store eggs correctly, avoid consuming raw or undercooked preparations and respect strict hygiene standards when handling food.

The recall once again confirms the importance of controls along the food supply chain: promptly identifying possible contamination allows us to limit consumer exposure and prevent more serious consequences for public health.
