Scene make: Bali’s study that renews the ancient art of attack, transforming the leaves into storage and breathtaking sculptures

In Bali, the intertwining of the palm and bamboo leaves is an ancient art form that still accompanies daily life, binding to rituals, celebrations and moments of sharing. Gus Ari, fascinated by the creative potential of this tradition, has chosen to transform it into something completely new, even if it all started, in reality, a little by chance.

On the occasion of the wedding of a friend, Gus made a woven tableau with coconut leaves, of an extraordinary beauty. The work attracted the attention of many including a certain Chloe Quinn, the theatrical scenographer of the United Kingdom, which was so impressed as to offer him an ambitious collaboration: to use the leaves to create natural installations on a large scale, to be used in the decoration of events and festivals, international conferences, but also in interior design and, more recently, in the production of sustainable jewels.

From the collaboration between Chloe and Gus was born thus “make -a -scene”, based in Bali, Leaf Creation Studio which has managed to merge traditional crafts with the contemporary theatrical design over time, always maintaining a careful look at sustainability. Their goal is in fact not only to embellish, but to do it without leaving a harmful imprint, using totally sustainable materials.
