Alga soap has been used for laundry for years and continues to be popular for a very simple reason: it’s cheap, it’s easy to separate and it can also be used to pre-treat stains. Yet there is a mistake that is made much more often than you think, especially when the laundry is particularly dirty: using too much.
It may seem almost trivial, but it is precisely the excess of product that causes one of the most annoying problems after washing: clothes that seem clean but which, once dry, have residues, slightly sticky areas or an unpleasant sensation to the touch.
More soap doesn’t necessarily mean cleaner
When we see a difficult stain, the first impulse is often to increase the dose, with Alga soap, however, this reasoning can become counterproductive.
The soap must be able to dissolve and above all be eliminated correctly during the rinsing phases. If the quantity used is excessive compared to the load, the quantity of water or the program chosen, some of the product may not disperse as it should. The result? We can find ourselves with residues on fabrics, marks or items that, despite having just come out of the washing machine, do not give that clean feeling we expected.
Because it can get on your clothes
There isn’t just one cause, too abundant an amount is one of the most common, but other factors also come into play.
The soap may not have dissolved completely during the cycle, especially if used in too large pieces. Insufficient rinsing can also cause residues to remain on the fabrics. And then there is the hardness of the water, which can influence the behavior of the detergent and the final washing result.
In the starting material it is indicated that residues and marks can appear when there is too much product, when it does not dissolve completely or when rinsing is not sufficient. This is why there is no universal quantity valid for every washing machine and every laundry.
Even putting a piece that is too large in the basket can be a mistake
The soft consistency of Alga soap invites you to divide it into small portions and insert it directly into the washing machine, it is convenient, but if the portion is too large or remains compact during the cycle, it may be more difficult to dissolve.
It is therefore better to follow the instructions on the packaging and adapt the dose to the actual washing conditions: quantity of laundry, level of dirt, program used and water hardness. There is no need to improvise generous doses “just to be safe”, it is often exactly the opposite.
What to do if you find residue after washing
If the problem appears once, it does not necessarily mean that Alga soap is not suitable for the washing machine. The first thing to do is much simpler: reduce the amount in the next wash. It is also a good idea to check that the product is able to disperse correctly and that the program chosen includes adequate rinsing.
If a visible patina already remains on the fabrics, it may be useful to rinse further with water, without adding more detergent. And above all, avoid the opposite mistake: seeing that the item didn’t turn out as we hoped and adding even more soap to the next wash.
The real trick is to use less
With many detergents we are used to the idea that a larger dose automatically corresponds to a deeper clean, but it doesn’t always work that way.
With Alga soap, especially in the washing machine, the right quantity matters more than the abundant quantity, if after washing you find residues on your clothes, therefore, before changing the product, check this detail. You may simply have used too much.
