Shocking! Two influencers sit on a protected sea turtle that was laying eggs to create social content

A nightmare vacation and a wave of global outrage have hit athlete and fitness content creator Vadym Oleynik and his partner Olena Kravchenko. During a stay in the renowned Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, in the Ras Al Hadd region in Oman, the couple decided to immortalise their holiday with naughty shots and videos, shared on social networks with around 200,000 followers of the profile. In the images, now removed after the media storm, the two appear comfortably seated on the back of a large sea turtle intent on laying its eggs on the sand, even going so far as to handle and lift newborn hatchlings into the air.

The offending video shows moments of total carelessness, with the Ukrainian influencer losing his balance and falling from the animal’s shell and then climbing back up triumphantly, while his partner smiles and makes the victory sign. An irresponsible behavior that immediately triggered a very harsh reaction online, forcing the protagonists to delete the contents, lock the profile with private settings and publish a formal apology video addressed to the Environmental Authority of the Sultanate of Oman.

The response of the Omani law and the belated apology

The reaction of local institutions was immediate in the face of such an affront against protected fauna. The Oman Environment Authority has issued an official note to confirm that it has opened an in-depth investigation and initiated all necessary legal actions against the influencer responsible for violating the strict regulations protecting local wildlife. In fact, Omani beaches represent one of the most important nesting sites in the world for protected marine species, protected by very strict laws that prohibit any form of disturbance or close contact.

Overwhelmed by criticism and the real risk of legal proceedings, Vadym Oleynik tried to remedy the situation by relying on a video message in which he defined what happened as a simple error of judgement, offering his official apologies to the environmental body and the green turtle protection agency. A belated justification that does not erase the gravity of a gesture made solely for the search for digital visibility, confirming how much the obsession with social media can push us to overcome every limit of respect for nature and legality.
