Originally built in 1948 by Mahlon Haines, nicknamed “The magician of shoes”, this home was born with a very particular advertising purpose. Haines had sensed that creating such a bizarre tourist attraction, he would stop people along the way and would have encouraged them to visit his shoe stores.
The strategy proved to be successful even after decades. Today tourists come from all over the world to live this unique experience: some book a stay in the 48 -footed historic house, others make a detour through Pennsylvania just to take photos in front of this bizarre but fascinating home.
A new life for the Shoe House
In 2022, Waylon and Naomi Brown purchased this unique property and gave it a slight renovation and improvement. Before their purchase, this historical point of reference had been used as a museum and subsequently as an ice cream shop.
The previous use as an ice cream shop did not generate quite profits to keep it active, and therefore after having dedicated the necessary care to the house, the Brown inserted it on Airbnb and the success was immediate.
