Smoking is prohibited on all the beaches of Pesaro, fines of up to 500 euros are foreseen: here’s when

A crackdown on smoking on the beaches arrives in Pesaro. The Municipality has decided to introduce a total smoking ban on the entire city coast, including both traditional and electronic cigarettes.

The measure will come into force on 1 April 2026 and will be valid all year round, not just during the bathing season, with the obvious aim of reducing pollution caused by cigarette butts and protecting the marine environment, following a beach management model increasingly oriented towards sustainability.

What changes

Previously, the ban concerned the first 5 meters from the shoreline and the body of water up to 200 meters from the shore along the municipal beaches. From 1 April 2026, however, the ban will be extended to the entire beach area, therefore smoking will be prohibited:

The only areas excluded will be bar spaces, while beach concessionaires will be able to identify any smoking areas, provided they are clearly marked and equipped.

The skills will be divided between:

Anyone who does not comply with the ban risks fines of up to 500 euros.

The ban is part of a broader environmental sustainability strategy for the Pesaro coast. The administration has in fact also joined the Plastic Free protocol, with the aim of introducing good practices to reduce waste and improve its management in beach establishments and campsites.

The idea is to make beaches cleaner, tidier and more welcoming, demonstrating that more rigorous management of public spaces can bring concrete benefits for the environment and tourism.
