Inconveniences and record traffic in the ĂŽle-de-France
While on the one hand the snow provided evocative images, on the other it caused heavy traffic disruption. In the entire ĂŽle-de-France region, exceptional traffic jams were recorded, with almost 1000 kilometers of queues on the main road arteries. The authorities have activated the “Neige et Verglas” plan, imposing stricter speed limits and prohibiting the circulation of heavy vehicles over 3.5 tons. Icy roads and slippery sidewalks also made walking difficult.

Transport slowed down and flights cancelled
The snow also had a significant impact on public transport. Buses between Paris and the banlieue were temporarily suspended, while around 15% of flights were canceled at Charles-de-Gaulle and Orly airports. Weather authorities have issued an orange warning for snow and ice, extending to part of northwestern France, with difficult conditions expected for several days and nighttime temperatures falling further.
Montmartre becomes an improvised ski slope
Despite the problems, the snow sparked the creativity of Parisians. In Montmartre, the famous hill dominated by the Sacred Heart, the city has transformed into a large urban stage. Amid laughter and applause, a young man attracted attention by skiing along the snowy streets, providing images that went viral. All around, improvised sleds, snowball fights between policemen and kids and slow walks have made the neighborhood a small Alpine station in the heart of the metropolis.
