Solidarity and the fight against waste win at the Monza Grand Prix: 3.6 tons of food recovered for families in difficulty

While the engines turned off and the enthusiasm for Kimi Antonelli’s extraordinary victory also infected the Ferrari fans, another silent but fundamental milestone was achieved behind the scenes of the 2026 Italian Grand Prix in Monza, in which the boys and girls of PizzAut also took part. The event in fact demonstrated how major international events can be transformed into initiatives of concrete solidarity and environmental sustainability. Thanks to a colossal operation to recover food surpluses, organized in the restaurants and catering facilities of the facility including the pre-race gala dinner, 3.6 tonnes of food which risked ending up wasted were saved.

Record numbers and an excellent supply chain

The project, active since 2022 and promoted jointly by the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, ATS Brianza and the Volunteer Service Center of Monza, Lecco and Sondrio, has translated the numbers of large-scale catering into tangible help for those experiencing fragile situations. The balance sheet speaks of 2,600 kg of fresh products including vegetables, fruit, bread, cheese and meat, combined with over 1,000 kg of dry products. The entire supply was taken care of by 83 volunteers and delivered to 9 local associations active in six Municipalities of Brianza, reaching 375 families and 846 people in difficulty, in addition to the donation of 164 ornamental plants for inclusive projects.

Upstream prevention and the ecological turning point

A very important aspect of the initiative concerns the effectiveness of prevention in managing consumption. Careful planning has made it possible to drastically reduce redundancies compared to 16 tons in 2022, bringing the overall total to over 30 tons of food recovered since the start of the program. This circular economy model has reduced waste, disposal costs and polluting emissions, confirming that sustainability in large events is an achievable and measurable objective.

A virtuous model to be replicated everywhere

The operational machine moved with rigorous hygienic-sanitary standards supervised by the ATS Brianza staff, who also accompanied the food with information materials for correct nutritional education. Extending this practice to other races on the calendar, as confirmed by the Autodromo’s leaders, represents a concrete response to the ecological and social challenges of our time. This is an excellent initiative that should be repeated at all events, not just Formula 1: transforming excess food into a shared heritage demonstrates that the community, when it knows how to organize itself, knows how to overcome the most important challenges.
