The fresh spring air, the awakening of nature and the first rays of sunshine that caresses the slopes of the mountains make the Aurina valley a perfect destination for families looking for outdoor adventures. Between flowery meadows and streams that resume vigor after the winter lethargy, this location set in the heart of South Tyrol offers accessible paths and rich in naturalistic surprises for hikers of all ages.

Here are three paths that will lead you to discover the hidden treasures of this valley, where the majesty of the Aurine Alps acts as a breathtaking landscapes that conquer the heart of young and old.

The three cascades of Riva

The three Riva waterfalls are located in the Aurina Valley, at the entrance of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Natural Park. The path to follow is marked red-white and brings n. 2 We pass straight and at the second intersection instead we go to the path n. 1 “Wasserfall” (waterfall), which leads to the first waterfall, 10 m high. The path carried out left and winds along the Rio di Riva. From here the path continues slightly downhill.

Precise indications

The path of S. Francesco is traveled for a few meters, but immediately after we have to turn left to get to the second waterfall. We pass through a small cave with wooden figurines. The journey continues to the left via the stairs, and after a steep climb the second waterfall awaits us, which is even higher. The path that continues for the third waterfall requires some experience, but is still sure and delimited by a fence.

The water of this imposing waterfall falls 40 m. The path brings us along the gorge of shore. We always continue for this path up to an intersection. On the left we go to the Toblhof restaurant, we keep right on the path of S. Francesco. After the chapel of S. Francesco and Santa Chiara, we reach the road to the shore of Tures, which we follow briefly downhill. At the crossroads for Acereto, the ascent on path 6b for Acereto begins.

Through the woods and the meadows, the path takes us directly to the village of Acereto, where we take a break at the Naturhotel Moosmair and enjoy the view. To return to Campo Tures, we follow path n. 10, which passes in front of the Masi Nöckler and Bircher descends directly to the country downstream, where our circular excursion ends. This natural show is truly impressive, especially in summer when the waterfalls bring more water than in other seasons, but it represents a beloved destination even in spring, when the thaw gives a particular energy to the water jumps.

Walk from Campo Tures to Lutago: on the sweet banks of the Eurino

The itinerary follows the course of the Aurino stream, moving into the narrow throat under Castel Tures, and then continue in a fresh forest, until it reaches the hamlet of Lutago di Sopra. The waters of the stream, first tumultuous and then quiet, accompany us along the way. The view of the frozen peaks of the Alps Aurine is splendid, which in the spring are reflected in crystal clear waters.

From Campo Tures (870 m) follow the forest road (signpost n. 4) which enrolled in the gorge of the Eurino. The route, about 10 km long round trip with a difference in height of 186 meters, is easily accessible, although the initial section has a more sustained slope. After passing the bridge over the state road, the path on the opposite shore resumes, crossing a pleasant forest and large flowery meadows. It is possible to avoid the first stretch by starting from the square near the bridge over the stream, near the Speikboden ascent system. The path is particularly suitable for families, thanks to the different benches and fountains that meet along the way, offering the opportunity of pleasant stops and moments of play for the little ones.

Sun path: the tour of the huts in bloom

A medium difficulty walk 19.7 km long, with a difference in height of 1,156 meters uphill and 887 meters downhill. The path of the sun in the Aurina Valley extends between Lutago and San Pietro making you immerse yourself in unique and magnificent landscapes. Along the way, meadows in flowers and lush woods alternate and there will be an opportunity to make a stop and enjoy some typical South Tyrolean dish in one of the numerous huts in the Aurina valley. The path is accessible from various points of the valley, making it easily accessible for hikers of all levels.

This itinerary develops always remaining at a relatively low altitude, between 1,100 and 1,400 meters above sea level, ideal for spring when the highest shares can still present snow. With a duration of about 6 hours and 20 minutes, it represents a demanding but rewarding excursion, perfect for families with older children or for those looking for a more complete adventure. Spring transforms this path into a riot of colors, with the alpine meadows that are filled with croci, primrio and gentian, offering a natural show that enchants young and old.
