Stray dog sneaks into a film festival and becomes a star: now he has a home

In the right place at the right time. How many times have we repeated this phrase in situations where timing (with a good dose of luck) was providential. Without wanting to, a stray dog put the principle into practice and ended up under the spotlight of a film festival.

The Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) has been held every year since 2003 in the city of the same name in Michoacán, Mexico. Renowned directors and artists parade on its red carpet, committed to the diffusion of Mexican culture. But not only that.

The 2024 edition, the 22nd, saw a guest as unexpected as it is special. A street dog stole the show from the guests at the big screen event, conquering everyone in a matter of seconds.

The four-legged friend, who must have wandered around the area a lot, had already been noticed by the public when he fell sweetly asleep near one of the barriers. Many people approached to pet him.

But his adventure continues. The little dog, later named Cácaro, eluded security by running onto the red carpet and leaving souvenirs around for the joy of the moment. His show was so successful that within a few hours it was Cácaro already become a star in Morelia and on the web.

Like all the other guests, Cácaro also obtained accreditation. The organization issued him a one-of-a-kind pass.

The staff made sure to immediately provide him with food and fresh water, also allowing him to attend the screenings in the theater.

But it doesn’t end here. Cácaro’s popularity allowed him to write the sweetest of endings. One of the festival participants decided to bring the dog with him.

Together they left for Mexico City, where Cácaro’s story will continue in a home with lots of love. There couldn’t be a more touching happy ending than an adoption that started from the heart.
