Temperatures dropping to 8°C: it’s going to be a week full of thunderstorms and hail, that’s where

The truce did not last long, since Monday 4 May Italy has once again had to deal with bad weather due to a low pressure vortex that extends from Western Europe to the heart of the continent. Humid and unstable currents are on the way: the mild phase of recent weeks ends quite abruptly.

The worsening will start from the North-West, with rains which, over the course of the day, will progressively spread towards Lombardy and Emilia. Tuscany will see rainfall intensify already in the afternoon hours. The rest of the country will still hold, at least for now: in the South and on the Adriatic the sky will be overcast, but without rain.

Tuesday and Wednesday, the worst days

The picture will become more complicated on Tuesday 5 May, with showers and thunderstorms that will extend to much of the Centre-North. The Tyrrhenian regions will be the most exposed. Something could also affect the South – Campania, Molise and upper Puglia – but in a more sporadic way than the rest of the Peninsula.

Wednesday will be the most critical day of the week. Thunderstorms may be locally strong, with the possibility of hailstorms especially in central-northern areas. Only in the evening will it be possible to glimpse a first easing.

The drop in precipitation will be accompanied by a drop in temperatures, maximum temperatures will lose several degrees first in the North, then in the Centre. The South, remaining on the edge of the disturbed flow, will continue to benefit from a residual subtropical anticyclonic field, with an almost summery climate at times in the southernmost regions.

Variability returns from Thursday

The second part of the week will bring a slow improvement. Already from Thursday the clearings will become more extensive and the phenomena will be reduced to isolated episodes, concentrated above all in inland and mountainous areas. In the South the sun will once again be the protagonist, with temperatures rising further.
