There is a moment, for all, in which you look in the mirror and realize that the beauty case has become a mined field. Dry mascaras that we do not even remember that we have bought, broken lipsticks but preserved “because one day they could serve”, creams open for months that have lost all effectiveness, brushes that shout revenge. It is no coincidence: the beauty case, just like the wardrobe, tells our relationship with the care of ourselves. And if we don’t take care of it, it ends up becoming an unmanageable chaos.
And here comes the so -called “20 minutes rule”. It is not an impossible challenge, nor one of those infinite routines that seem to be designed only for influencers with too much free time. It is a realistic approach, designed for those who live in a hurry, for those who work, study, chase a thousand commitments. In twenty net minutes, timer in hand, it is possible to put order in the beauty case and above all to find a sense of lightness.
The starting point: accept the disorder
First of all: let’s face it. The beauty case is never just a beauty case. It is a box of memories, experiments, impulsive purchases, not very right gifts. It is the eyeliner bought at the airport before a trip, the palette given to Christmas by the aunt who knows nothing about make-up, the champion who “maybe try”.
Accepting that there is everything inside, and that much has become useless, it is the first step. There is no fault to expia: simply life changes, tastes evolve, and products have a deadline that does not forgive. In other words, the beauty case is a living archive, but it cannot be eternal.
Minute 1-5: empty everything and breathe
The rule says: it starts bringing everything out. Do not leave anything inside, not even the temperature for pencils. Empty the beauty houses on the table, perhaps covering the surface with a towel. The glance will be devastating: accumulated products, dust everywhere, almost finished packaging but kept “just for”.
This phase is fundamental, because only by seeing the whole can you realize how much space you are wasted. Don’t stop and look with guilt: think that those twenty minutes are your reset. Breathe, maybe put a playlist that gives you energy, and starts.
Minute 6-10: eliminate mercilessly
The hardest, but also more liberating part, is to throw away. There are universal rules: if a product has changed color, smell or consistency, it should be eliminated immediately. If a lipstick is over two years old, goodbye. Mascara have an average life of six months from the opening, and there is no excuse that it holds: afterwards they become fertile ground for bacteria.
The same applies to liquid creams and foundations. And then there are the samples never used: Tienine one or two that you will really try within the week, the rest must be disposed of. You are not throwing away money, you are freeing mental and physical space.
Minute 11-15: Select your allies
At this point the heart of the matter remains: the products you really love and use. The trick is not to be fooled by the “maybe one day”. That acid green glitter umbit that you bought once for carnival is not your daily ally. The products that deserve space are those you use within a week, or that give you security when you want to feel at the top.
Think of the beauty houses as a trusted team: few, but good. The foundation that adapts to your skin, the lipstick that saves you even in the worst days, the mascara that always works. And if you realize that something is missing, pin it: better to buy consciously later, rather than keep the duplication of ten useless products.
Minute 16-18: clean and refresh
It’s not just about what you keep, but also how you keep it. Clean the beauty case with a disinfectant wipe or a damp cloth, let it dry. Wash the brushes if you have time (or at least put them aside to do it the same evening). Clean the edges of the lipsticks, remove residue dust from eyeshadows, from the new dignity to the tools you use every day.
This step radically changes the perception of the beauty case: it is no longer a dirty and chaotic container, but it becomes your space of beauty, ordered and cared for.
Minute 19-20: Recompose the new beauty case
Now you are ready to recompose. Put inside only what you have selected, arranging it with logic: the products for the base together, those for the eyes in another section, the grouped lipsticks. If you have a small beauty case, think in minimal terms: what enters is what you use.
In a few minutes, you will find yourself in front of a beauty houses that finally breathes. There is no longer any more rummage between layers of forgotten products: each object has a place and a reason to stay there.
Because it really works
The power of the 20 -minute rule is not only practical, it is psychological. Making space in the beauty case means making space in the head. It means eliminating the visual and mental noise of products that you do not use, which make you feel guilty, that they remind you wasted money.
In addition, it is a symbolic gesture: taking care of your beauty tools is equivalent to taking care of yourself. It is no coincidence that many people, after making Beauty Case decluttering, feel more motivated to treat the skincare or to experiment with a new make-up.
Start over, seriously
The beauty is that this rule can be repeated when you want. There is no need to wait great changes or “right moments”. Every time you feel you are in disorder, you can give yourself twenty minutes and leave.
And above all, you learn to look at the beauty houses with more awareness. It is no longer a landfill of impulses, but a reasoned collection of what makes you feel good. Starting again, after all, means this: letting go of the superfluous to make room for what matters.
