The atrocious and invisible suffering of the beagle dogs used for experiments at Aptuit in Verona

Experiments with very high levels of pain, electrical implants, unnecessary killing. These are some of the terrible accusations made against the multinational pharmaceutical company Aptuit of Verona, in whose laboratories animal guinea pigs suffer the pain of hell. Despite reports, checks and the seizure of several dogs and monkeys, those horrors are anything but a bad memory.

The persistence of “serious and multiple violations of sector regulations”.

This is what LAV, the Anti-Vivisection League, reports, which has followed the case since its inception and continues to ask the institutions to put an end to the suffering of beagles used for animal testing. They are the ones who pay the price on their skin, on their tortured bodies.

Years after the very first report, several steps have been taken to shed light on the Aptuit affair. The former president of the company and the veterinarian were included in the register of suspects following the preliminary investigations concluded by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, 7 specimens of beagles, 7 macaques and 11 monkeys were entrusted to judicial custody to the LAV association.

At the same time, however, a temporary resumption of toxicological tests was also authorized in the summer of 2024 with over 1500 beagle dogs requested by the company to continue the experiments. From that moment on, the Council of State had instructed CUFA to carry out periodic and unannounced inspections to verify compliance with the legislation.

Based on the reports and documents sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Verona and to the Head of the Department of Human Health, Animal Health and Ecosystem (OneHealth), LAV renews its appeal for the release of the dogs in the hands of Aptuit.

Several animal rights organizations and hundreds of people sensitive to the cause joined the protest, taking to the streets against animal testing. The will of the citizens is clear and yet every year thousands of sentient beings continue to be brutally tortured in universities, institutes and centers across the country in the name of research and science.
