The best hospitals in the world according to Newsweek: Gemelli in Rome comes first in Italy

Newsweek and Statista have published the “World’s Best Hospitals 2026” ranking, now in its eighth edition: a ranking that identifies the best hospital facilities globally and provides specific rankings for each country, so as to allow readers to access information tailored to their needs and geographical location.

An all the more useful reference considering that, according to the global analysis platform Statista, during this year the number of active hospitals in the world should reach 216,000. Faced with such a vast panorama, orienting oneself becomes a complex undertaking for both patients and families, often called upon to make delicate decisions in moments of uncertainty, when unusual symptoms or a difficult diagnosis already weigh on the overall picture. Having access to clear and verified information can make the difference between an effective treatment path and a less than optimal one.

This year’s assessment spans hospitals across 32 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States of America. The selection of these countries was based on multiple comparability criteria: population size, life expectancy, standard of living, hospital density and reliability of available data.
