Nothing prevents you from painting pumpkins without drying them, but they will last a limited time. If you use edible varieties, remember to extract the pulp to use it in some recipe.
If you dry them, you can reuse them even years later, avoiding waste. But in this case you have to use ornamental pumpkins.
How to proceed? It binds a string around the petiole and hang them in an open place, dry and not exposed directly to the sun’s rays. You can also place them on the windowsill or in a wooden container, one next to the other, and put them for a month in a dry place, turning them frequently.
