The animal shelter “Alyarz Pet Club” in Baabdaa suburb of Beirut, is facing an unprecedented crisis due to continued Israeli bombing in Lebanon. Animals that have been rescued or abandoned, many of them already tested by abuse and mistreatmentnow they must endure the additional trauma of loud explosion noises.
The shelter’s surveillance cameras, with videos later posted on Instagram and which went viral, immortalized heartbreaking scenes: dozens of dogs and cats they flee in fear at each detonationterrified by a sound they cannot understand or escape.
Razane Khatib, the director of the shelter, described the situation as unsustainable. The animals, which had previously found a safe haven, are now here showing serious signs of stress. Symptoms range from anxiety and aggression to physical illnesses such as vomiting and diarrhea.

Two kittens lost their sight due to the pressure of the explosions
The most tragic case is that of two kittens, who have lost his sight due to the pressure of the explosions. Razane fears for the lives of all the animals under his care: around 200 cats and 20 dogs, who are exposed to the growing risk of nearby bombing, with no possibility of evacuation.
Once again this situation reminds us how war has devastating effects not only on humans, but also on animals. The latter, often forgotten in conflict scenarios, they suffer deep traumas that are difficult to treat.
To try to alleviate their suffering, the shelter managers began to administer CBD products to dogs and cats, in an attempt to reduce anxiety. However, this is only a temporary solution to a problem that seems to have no end.
Life at the shelter is now a daily hell. The nights are marked by evacuation warnings coming at impossible times, like 2 or 3 in the morningleaving little time to react. Many civilians lose their lives because they do not receive warnings in time, and the streets devastated by bombing make it impossible for shelter volunteers to escape or take the animals to safety.
This is just the latest desperate request to stop this warwith appeals coming from many quarters. Civilians, animals and homes are disappearing under the rubble. It is a cry for help that can no longer be ignored: the lives in danger, human and animal, deserve to be saved by putting an end to this useless and destructive conflict.
