2025 was a year marked by gestures of incredible courage and extraordinary solidarity towards animals in danger. From the frozen lakes of New York to the forests of the Amazon, from the streets of Thailand to dangerous construction sites, men and women, rescue teams and volunteers have transformed moments of fear into stories of hope, restoring freedom and life to defenseless creatures. Let’s see the most exciting rescues of recent months.
Sly, the horse trapped in a frozen lake
In Saratoga Springs, New York, Sly, a horse, became trapped in freezing water after the ice gave way under his weight. The owner, Ali Ernst, tried desperately to get him out, holding his head high and reassuring him, until the police arrived. The officers tied a rope to the halter and, by joining forces, were able to pull Sly out of the water. The scene, filmed by body cam, captured minutes of tension, fear and relief. Once free, the horse took its first steps. Wet and scared, he was then taken to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital for checks, but recovered quickly.
