Trentino-Alto Adige is preparing to launch a new initiative to support families and, at the same time, strengthen the social security system. For each newborn who came to the world from 1 January 2025 the Region will allocate a bonus of up to 1,100 euros to be allocated to a complementary pension fund. The idea was born from the awareness that pensions based only on the contribution system risk not being sufficient for future generations.
How the contribution works
At the time of birth, 300 euros will be credited directly to the child’s pension fund. In the following four years, the support will continue with 200 euros per year, provided that the family contributes with at least 100 euros per year. In this way, a small social security capital is created which can grow over time thanks to the investments envisaged by the funds.
Access requirements
The measure is not linked to income, but requires that the family has stable residence in Trentino-Alto Adige for at least three years. In addition, the child must be resident in the region at the time of birth, adoption or custody. In a transitory basis, children born from 2020 will also be able to benefit from the bonus, provided they are less than five years old at the time of the entry into force of the law.
The resources allocated
For the first year, the planned investment amounts to 3.2 million euros, which will later establish around 2 million per year. A figure that the Region considers sustainable in exchange for a long -term cultural and social impact.
A cultural objective: educating on supplementary pension
According to the regional councilor for social security, Carlo Daldoss, the initiative above all has a cultural objective: educating families for long -term planning and the awareness that supplementary pension will be increasingly necessary. The idea is to build a sort of “social security dowry” that children will be able to use not only at the time of retirement, but also for some life projects, as required by the legislation on complementary social security.
Comparison with other regions and Europe
Trentino-Alto Adige would be the first Italian region to introduce a universal incentive of this type. In Friuli-Venezia Giulia, on the other hand, there is already a support of 200 euros for minors enrolled in pension funds, but tied to the ISEE and the family card. In Europe, on the other hand, Germany has announced the “Frühstart Reno” plan, a “social security pagper” of 10 euros per month for children from six years to age.
