A dishwasher should make our lives easier, not make it more stressful with the noise of pumps and splashes of water throughout the wash cycle. Fortunately, new technologies have made these appliances much quieter than in the past. But which are the best models in this respect? ConsumerReports conducted an extensive test for identify the quietest dishwashers of 2024.
Choosing a quiet model can improve your quality of life, especially in open-plan living spaces or in homes where the kitchen is close to the sleeping areas. The noise produced by a dishwasher can in fact be very annoying and depend on several factors: the power of the motor, the quality of the sound insulation, the design of the exhaust system and even the way in which the water is sprayed on the dishes. However, regardless of the causes, we would all prefer our appliance not to produce annoying noises.
But let’s get to the point that interests us most: which are the best brands?
Among the 120 models sampled from over 20 brands, ConsumerReports he found three dishwashers in particular which combine exceptionally quiet operation with high reliability and user satisfaction.
The quietest dishwashers of 2024
According to Larry Ciufo, engineer of ConsumerReportsover the last five years manufacturers have made great progress to reduce the noise impact of dishwashers, improving both comfort and performance.
But of the many models tested, the US organization highlights 3 in particular:
But, alas, none of these models seem to be available in Italy. However, the Consumer Reports test highlights an important aspect: the Bosch, KitchenAid and LG brands stand out not only for their silent operation, but also for their high long-term reliability, as confirmed by the survey of almost 60,000 users.

How the test was carried out
Regarding the noisethe dishwashers were evaluated by an expert jury, which considered the noise level throughout the wash cycle, which can last up to three hours.
As for performancelaboratory technicians performed a series of extensive tests on key aspects such as washing, drying and energy efficiency. Each model was loaded with 10 place settings of white ceramic plates, soiled with cooked food, along with several plastic items placed in the top rack. Finally, a standard cycle was run to simulate daily use.
At the end of the cycle, photo-imaging software analyzed images of the dishes before and after washing, allowing testers to precisely evaluate the cleanliness achieved. Drying effectiveness was judged by looking at how much residual water remained on the dishes, with particular attention to plastic items, which are notoriously more difficult to dry than ceramic and glass.
Regarding energy efficiency, testers measured water and energy consumption during a standard cycle, providing key data to understand the level of sustainability of the model analyzed. These parameters allow you to identify dishwashers that offer the best balance between performance, practicality and efficiency.
