The Silent Book Party arrives in the elegant rooms of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan, transforming the historic environments into an oasis of concentration and beauty. The invitation is aimed at all young people between 18 and 35 years old, who can participate by bringing their own book or choosing one from the volumes offered by various prestigious publishing houses. The experience aims to offer a moment of total immersion in reading, away from the frenetic pace of daily distractions.
From 6.30pm to 9.30pm, when the museum closes to the public, readers take the place of regular visitors and sit in the discreetly lit rooms. The atmosphere, defined as “active silence”, invites you to experience the museum as a sort of “ideal home”, where reading surrounded by priceless works of art – such as the famous Botticelli – adds depth and pleasure to the experience. To maintain concentration, smartphones and digital devices are sealed at the entrance in special bags.
An intimate moment, but not solitary
Reading takes place individually, everyone immersed in their own book, but the context fosters a sense of community among young readers. At the end of the session, we meet in the Museum’s Orangery to socialize over a drink and share impressions, advice or simple emotions. This is where a lively literary quiz comes to life, designed to create bonds and strengthen a network of curious and aware enthusiasts.
The great success of the September appointment has led the Poldi Pezzoli Museum to schedule a new date, set for 10 December 2025. The demand is such that bookings are often closed early, given the limited capacity of the rooms. The event is paid (cost 13 euros, to be paid at the ticket office), and booking is mandatory via the museum website at this link.
