A video has been circulating for hours, relaunched by all Italian newspapers, shown to the news and published on thousands of social pages, which shows a group of men on the beach intent on pulling nets full of fish. The images were presented as current and linked to the situation of Gaza, suggesting that these are Palestinian fishermen finally returned to the sea after months of blocking, thanks to the fact that the flotilla would distract the Israeli army.
It would be nice to believe it: a small glimpse of normalcy in the midst of devastation. But unfortunately the reality is very different – and decidedly more dramatic.
The video, in fact, is not recent: it dates back to February. This is confirmed by not only the original publication date, but also the details visible in the images. The people filmed wear jackets and heavy clothes, a clothing decidedly incompatible with the current temperatures in the Gaza Strip, which in these days touch 30 degrees.

It is not clear where the new diffusion of the video started, but the lack of context has favored a wave of incorrect shares, transforming an old movie into a “fresh” and deceptive news. In a few hours, he ended up in the main national news, amplifying confusion and helping to spread a distorted image of the situation on the ground.
This episode is a concrete example of how easy it is to circulate wrong information, even without bad intentions. But it is also an alarm bell: in a very delicate context like that of Gaza, every detail counts. The not verified news risk feeding false hopes, distorting public perception and, above all, obscuring the real gravity of the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The truth, unfortunately, is that the daily life in the strip remains marked by bombing, lack of resources and heavy restrictions. Scenes like those of the video do not belong to the present, but to a past that today seems light years away.
