The Wolf Within: The wolf conservation film you absolutely need to see

From a majestic wild animal to be strictly protected to a problematic carnivore in a fragmented environment. The image of the wolf has changed radically over time and the same could happen to its protection status, which is at risk of being downgraded in Europe.

But, amidst heated debates on episodes of conflict between human beings and wild fauna and a coexistence that appears increasingly difficult, the wolf remains a fundamental predator for biodiversity. A new film reiterates this, highlighting the key role this wild animal has.

Is called The Wolf Within the documentary on the conservation of the wolf in Europe which offers an overview of the natural ecosystem and the maintenance of its balance, to which the wolf contributes concretely and in an irreplaceable measure.

The film, directed by Federico Manneschi, tells the stories of characters inserted in rural communities and the actions of coexistence against the backdrop of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and the Belluno Dolomites.

The Italian journey retraces conservation initiatives and the progress to be made in a changing world. The efforts are not limited to the protection of a single species but rather a complex commitment on multiple fronts, aimed at restoring European biodiversity and rehabilitating the image of the wolf.

For this reason, The Wolf Within was presented by the associations I’m not afraid of the wolf, The European Nature Trust And WaterBear on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Bern Convention at the London premiere on November 6th. But the film will also be shown on the Italian big screen.

Already over 300 organizations and more than 310,000 people have signed the online petition to ask that the criteria for protecting wolves within European borders are not weakened. In contrast, there is a need for strict protection for the wolf species.

From this perspective, the film invites careful reflection by reiterating that a healthy habitat cannot exist without guaranteeing the wolf a future.
