Prague Airport (PRG) is the overall winner of the Routes Europe Awards 2026, the awards given by the international Routes organisation, which celebrates excellence in airport marketing and route development. The event took place on the evening of May 19th in Rimini, as part of the 2026 edition of the Routes Europe forum.
The Czech airport dominated on several fronts. Prague also triumphed in the category reserved for airports with traffic between 5 and 20 million passengers, as well as winning the overall title. In 2025, it handled approximately 17.8 million passengers, an increase of 8.5% compared to the previous year, accompanied by intense network expansion. Among the most important results we can mention the activation of 46 new routes, the opening of 24 new destinations and the arrival of 12 new airlines. On the long haul, the airport has launched new connections to Seoul, Abu Dhabi, Toronto and Sharjah, in addition to the European debut of Starlux Airlines with the route to Taipei. American Airlines plans to open a route to Philadelphia in 2026.
Italy in the rankings
For Italy the recognition goes to the Amerigo Vespucci airport in Florence. The Tuscan airport won the award in the category dedicated to airports with less than 5 million passengers per year, one of the main international awards in the sector, assigned on the basis of the evaluations expressed directly by the airlines.
In 2025 the Florentine airport recorded 3.8 million passengers, up 9.4% compared to the previous year, with a network made up of 20 airlines and around 40 destinations served. Among the new features, two new strategic partners, Air Corsica and Air Serbia, and the activation of routes to Brussels, Nice, Belgrade, Alghero and the Island of Elba.
