These sustainable sneakers are made with natural resources from the Amazon (and will also arrive in Europe next year)

Seringôa Brazilian brand from Castanhal, Pará, has launched a sustainable sneaker using natural resources from the Amazon, such as natural rubber and açaí seeds. This innovative project combines attention to the environment, economic support for local communities and the use of ecological materials to promote responsible and sustainable fashion.

The production of these shoes takes place thanks to a sustainable supply chain involving local communities in the Amazon. The rubber, the main component, comes from plantations located on the island of Marajó, where approximately 1,500 families they extract and process this material.

The açaí seeds, a by-product of the processing of the fruit, are micronized to be integrated into the composition of the footwear. The upper is made of vegetable fibres such as jute and mauve, supplied by local producers. 95% of the materials used are biodegradablemaking the product ecological and respectful of Amazonian biodiversity.

The lining is made of organic cotton

The idea of creating these shoes was born in 2020, when the company decided to reorient its production towards a more sustainable model. Inspired by the rubber tappers of the Amazon, the production aims to valorize their work and promote the conservation of the forest, while protecting the ecosystem and the communities that depend on it.

The sneakers, produced in collaboration with Coopereco (Cooperative for the Production of Eco-Extractivists in the Amazon), are available in Brazil but, starting from 2025, will be exported to Europe. Switzerland will be the first country to receive these eco-friendly footwear, demonstrating the growing international interest in sustainable fashion.

Production, currently limited to 500 pairs per monthsupports the families involved financially and contributes to the fight against the climate emergency. Every element of the sneakers is designed to minimize environmental impact. The sole, insole and laces contain organic latex and vegetable fibres.

The lining is made of organic cotton combined with a natural latex foam, ensuring comfort and biodegradability. Available in two models, the shoes can be purchased in stores in Sao Paulo and Belém, as well as online, with free shipping throughout Brazil.

This project represents a concrete example of how it is possible to create high quality products, respecting the environment and supporting local communitiesthus promoting a more equitable and sustainable economy and we can’t wait to have the opportunity to purchase them here too.
